The Intragastric Balloon (IGB) is a treatment against obesity, without surgery. It is indicated for people with mild or moderate obesity who cannot lose weight on their own.
The BIB device is a soft and dilatable balloon that is inserted into the stomach through the mouth without the need for surgery. It is used in previous examination of the stomach through a television camera or gastroscope.
Once in the stomach, it is filled with a sterile saline solution. The BIB is implanted through a simple process that takes 20 to 30 minutes.
The balloon must remain for a maximum of six months, after which time it will be removed.
The withdrawal will be the same way it was placed.
The first few days it is likely that the presence of the balloon inside the stomach causes nausea or vomiting. The medical team will prescribe medications to alleviate these symptoms.
Over a period of six months, patients will attend scheduled information sessions and learn new eating habits, thus laying the foundation for long-term weight loss.
