Prosthodontics

Prosthodontics

It consists of replacing a missing or fractured tooth to restore masticatory function, anatomy, aesthetics and altered phonation, through a prosthesis that can be removable, fixed or hybrid. These prostheses can be:

Crowns on Teeth

Crowns or “caps” are placed when a tooth is weak or damaged to strengthen it. With the CEREC inLab® system we are able to make crowns and teeth in one hour. For the placement of these crowns, the root of the tooth must be prepared and carved, where it will be attached using a special cement.

Crowns on implants

The implant is an artificial tooth root, in other words, it is a “screw” that is permanently inserted into the gum. The fixed crown or screw-retained crown will go on the implant, being in charge of emulating the tooth. On some occasions it is necessary to place a provisional acrylic crown before the final crown. This procedure does not harm the rest of the teeth, achieving excellent aesthetics and masticatory function.

Full fixed dentures

These dentures are necessary in cases where one or more teeth are not missing, but all of them are missing. With the

ALL-ON-4™ technique, all the teeth of the maxillary or mandible arch are placed on 4 implants on the same day of surgery. In this way, the discomfort is minimal for the patient and their quality of life is improved from the first moment. This technique serves for 99% of cases.

Dental bridges

A procedure that replaces a missing tooth or teeth in the oral cavity. They can be on a tooth or on an implant. This is the least conservative option, since the teeth adjacent to the missing teeth must be carved, removing enamel from healthy teeth.

Removable partial prosthesis

The teeth are placed on an acrylic support, which are attached by means of metal hooks to the adjacent teeth, wearing them down, as they support the forces chewing, they are not very aesthetic (since the metallic hooks are visible) and the supporting bone is gradually lost, making it necessary, as with dentures, periodic reviews to carry out relines.

Removable complete dentures

Known as dentures, they replace all the teeth in the jaw. Its main characteristic is that it can be removed by the patient, thinking about their hygiene. The false teeth are placed on an acrylic support. Over time, the adaptation of the prosthesis is lost, since the bone is reabsorbed due to the absence of teeth or implants and it is necessary to go to the dentist to carry out periodic relines every 6 or 12 months.
